Intent

At Weaverham Forest Primary School our Art curriculum aims to engage, inspire and challenge pupils to use their creativity to produce their own works of art, craft and design.  We aim to enable our pupils to create work with a real purpose, and be able to comment on their own work and the work of others to evaluate and analyse art work. We encourage children to explore various skills including drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles and 3D work, and introducing them to famous artists, our children will be able to reach and be able to see the progress they have made by showcasing the skills and progress they have made across each year.

Implementation:

The skills and knowledge that children will develop throughout each art unit are mapped across each year group using a whole school overview and progression documents. A focus on skills means that children are given opportunities to express their creative imagination, as well as practice and develop mastery in the key processes of art: drawing, painting, printing, textiles and sculpture.

Each year group should aim to plan 3 units of art and design during the year, and teaching and learning should show a build-up of skills, through our Kapow Curriculum. All children have a sketchbook which may be used to document the creative process and planning of each unit.

As a school we aim to celebrate art in the community and be part of different community projects. This includes the Northwich art exhibition and the Weaverham Rose Fete.  

Impact:

Children develop their creativity, independence, self reflection and imagination. They will also develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them.

The work children create will be displayed around school and celebrated in the community through various projects. This will give children a sense of purpose and pride in the work displayed.
